The Great Backyard Bird Count

Kidzu Children’s Museum is celebrating the Great Backyard Bird Count with five days of FREE mini events! Flock over to their Facebook page each day from February 11th – 15th at 4:00 PM to learn about these winged creatures with Kidzu’s STEM Coordinator, Allie. Here’s the schedule of events:

 

FEBRUARY 11 – BACKYARD BIRD COUNT INTRODUCTION

Find out what the Great Backyard Bird Count is and how to participate with a quick tutorial on the Merlin app that helps you identify birds and add sightings to your list! 

 

FEBRUARY 12 – A TALE OF FEATHERED FRIENDS

Continue the bird count festivities by listening to a storytime about the benefits of bird counting! They will be reading “Counting Birds: the Idea that Helped Save Our Feathered Friends” by Heidi E.Y. Stemple.

 

FEBRUARY 13 – BIRDHOUSE CRAFTING SESSION

Provide your backyard birds with a new home by making a birdhouse out of string!

 

FEBRUARY 14 – FOR THE LOVE OF BIRDS

Spread a little love this Valentine’s Day by finding out how to help local birds with small changes that make a big difference!

 

FEBRUARY 15 – BRILLIANT BIRDS DISCOVERY PACK

Don’t stop celebrating birds once the Great Backyard Bird Count ends! Learn how to continue the fun at home with Kidzu’s Brilliant Birds Discovery Pack.
