Chef Ricky Moore of Saltbox Seafood Joint and Chef John Eisensmith of Six Plates Wine Bar team up to present a four-course, seasonal dinner paired with The New York Times’ “America’s Favorite Cider Award Winner,” Foggy Ridge Cider from Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains.

Start the evening with a cider-inspired cocktail on the greens of the gorgeous Sarah P. Duke Gardens, which will be made even before beautiful at the hands of Ninth Street Flowers.

Cider maker Chuck Flynt will then personally pair each course with one of his delectable ciders and educate diners along the way, taking them on a journey that started in 1997 when he planted her orchard with quality fruit. He proudly continues an American tradition that began in 1623. Over 30 American, English and French apple varieties – hard to grow but full of the tannin, acid and aroma needed for fine cider – are blended to create traditional hard ciders crafted with modern techniques.

You’ve been to plenty of beer and wine dinners – cider dinners are the next trend! Fans of wine, brut and champagne will love Foggy Ridge’s clean, dry and fruit-forward flavors.

Chef Moore is a CIA graduate who has competed on Iron Chef America, cooked on Oprah and worked for highly acclaimed restaurants across the globe, including the two-star Michelin-rated Apicius in Paris. Saltbox Seafood Joint on Durham’s North Mangum Street has quickly become a Triangle favorite. He regularly sells out of his signature dishes like crab grits, and he’s garnered attention from Saveur, which said that Saltbox “fulfills our wildest fantasies of what a takeout fish shack can be.“

A portion of proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Durham Branch of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. The Durham branch serves over 96,000 individuals who are at risk for hunger; about one-third of those are children.

In 2014, Taste the Event fed over 17,000 hungry people in our community. In 2015, we want to do more!
