Curling up with a good book and cup of coffee… it seems like a natural pairing. But before Chapel Hill Public Library takes the plunge by adding a permanent coffee shop location, they’re conducting an experiment. A pop-up coffee shop featuring a rotating lineup of local vendors like Carrboro Coffee Roasters, Coco Bean Coffee Shop and Market Street Coffee will grace the lobby of the library for the next two months.
The library is curious, first, if this demand for coffee at the library is real. Logistically, too, they want to get an idea about how this new element could impact daily library operations and if a remodel will be needed to make it work.
Up first is Carrboro Coffee Roasters. “Like many people I have always believed that books and coffee pair well together, so we are once again reuniting these two in this great town resource,” says owner Scott Conary. “The ultimate goal is proving that a more permanent setup is worthwhile; so we are excited to have already seen a great response on day one!”
“We would love to see this flourish, and continue to share these amazing coffees from our farmer partners with the folks of Chapel Hill in a great library setting,” Scott adds.
So, pick up your favorite espresso drink, brewed coffee or hot chocolate – plus a muffin on the side – and settle into a good library book. Carrboro Coffee Roasters will be brewing until Jan. 24, with Coco Bean and Market Street finishing out the experiment through the month of February.
