“Religion and Ritual” – Thursday-May 13 – Be among the first to check out Ackland Art Museum‘s showcase of the religious diversities of Asia, including art from Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism and others. The exhibit is part of the Ackland’s reinstallation of its Asian galleries. Free.

South African Beadwork – Thursday-Sunday – Catch the final weekend of Norma Canelas Roth and William Roth’s collection at Ackland. The beadwork showcases the art and culture of three different groups in South Africa: the Mfengu, the Zulu, and the Ndebe. Free.

First Saturday Tour – Saturday – The North Carolina Botanical Gardens in winter is something magical. Enjoy the first tour of the year, but bundle up! Free.

Children’s Book Club Party – Saturday, 4-5pm – Are your children avid readers? Take them down to McIntyre’s Bookstore for a book club party just for kids. Your children will be able to find new books and talk about the ones they’ve already read. Free.

Bear it All: A Karaoke Party for the Carrboro Cubs — Saturday, 7:30pm — Laugh with your friends and sing your heart out at a Cat’s Cradle’s karaoke night benefiting the Carrboro Cubs. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.

“The Longest Night: A Winter’s Tale” – Saturday, 1:30pm; Sunday, 2:30pm – Morehead Planetarium and Paperhand Puppet Intervention present a full-dome viewing of a wintertime tale. The story follows a young girl as she takes on a heroic quest.

Kidzu: Pay What You Can Admission Day – Sunday, 1-5pm – Get your kids out of the house for any price you can afford at the Kidzu Children’s Museum.

UNC Women’s Basketball – Sunday, 2pm – Watch in person as the Heels take on the Pittsburgh Panthers at Carmichael Arena. Tickets start at $10.

Bryan Colburn Ellis Exhibit Reception – Sunday, 2-4pm – Head to the Horace Williams House to celebrate its January exhibit with a reception. Local artist Bryan Colburn Ellis’ work will be on display at the House through January 28. Free.
