Celebrate the coming of summer with three outdoor concerts, a drive-in movie and a Kitten Shower

Thursday 

Junior Gardeners
Kidzu Children’s Museum hosts an event for children, caregivers and community members to explore and care for Kidzu’s Learning Garden every Tuesday and Thursday 9:30-10:30 a.m. Guests must register to attend. 

Friday

St. Paul & The Broken Bones-The Pod Parties Concert 
Soul band St. Paul & the Broken Bones performs a socially distant outdoor concert at the Orange County Speedway in Rougemont. Guests can reserve pods that seat up to six people and bring their own chairs or blankets. Gates open at 5 p.m. for the 7 p.m. performance. 

Freight Train Blues Virtual Music Series-Johnny Ray Daniels 
The annual Freight Train Blues Music Series is presented virtually this year by WUNC, the Town of Carrboro, Music Maker Relief Foundation, Soul Bag and Artarie. This year’s series honors Elizabeth “Libba Cotton”, a blues singer who was born in Carrboro in 1893. This week’s concert will feature Johnny Ray Daniels, a soul artist from Farmville, North Carolina, and guitarist and vocalist for the Glorifying Vine Sisters. 

Friday-Saturday

‘Cruella’
The Drive-In at Carraway Village hosts an outdoor drive-in showing of Walt Disney’s live-action feature film, “Cruella,” starring Emma Stone.

Saturday 

Orange County Veterans Memorial Day Flag placements
American Legion Post 6 and Boy Scouts of America Chapel Hill Troops 835 and 505 invite the community to gather at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery to place flags on the graves of veterans. After the ceremony there will be a memorial service for Major Everett “Bud” Hampton who died on May 13 at the age of 97. 

‘Astronaut’
Morehead Planetarium and Science Center hosts the show “Astronaut,” which takes viewers into space from the view of an astronaut and is narrated by Ewan McGregor and produced by the National Space Centre. The show is best for ages nine and older and tickets must be reserved ahead of time. 

Kitten Shower 
Paws4ever invites community members to donate pet supplies to their Kitten Shower to support the 30-plus kittens they have rescued so far this spring. Participants can meet and play with the kittens at the shelter. Guests must register for a 15-minute session and limit their group to a maximum of four people.

Sunday 

Outdoor Concert: Barry Gray and Wes Collins 
The Sundays at Sundown Music series features singer-songwriters Barry Gray and Wes Collins. The concert will be held outside on the Village Green at Southern Village. Guests must reserve a pod ahead of time.
