This week’s Sundays at Sundown Music Series at Southern Village features the lead singer of the Raleigh-based Johnny Cash tribute band Johnny Folsom 4, David Burney, and Chathamite Rebecca Newton.

Thursday

VIVIAN in The Cave
The native Colorado duo, VIVIAN, will be performing their blend of heavy bass, fiery rock and ethereal electronic chill style at The Cave at 9 p.m. The event is free to the public but donations are encouraged.

Wine and Wonder
The Colonial Inn is hosting an evening of local storytelling, artistic fun and wine immersing guests with stories and memories of historic Hillsborough.

Friday

Compose Carolina
Free and open to the public, the UNC Department of Music invites you to attend the second-annual Compose Carolina summer music series, every Friday in July at 12 p.m. The prompt for this year is “In The Now,” which is to be interpreted freely by the composers, from the literal to the very metaphorical. This Friday in particular features Southern California-based composer, performer, sound artist and creative coder, Stewart Engart.

Graham Sharp and Woody Platt
Former members of the Steep Canyon Rangers and Grammy Award Winners, Graham Sharp and Woody Platt take the stage at Cat’s Cradle at 8 p.m. with the doors opening at 7 p.m.

Full Buck Moon Celebration
The Honeysuckle Tea House invites you to join the celebration of July’s full moon, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Also known as the “buck moon” because the antlers of male deer are in full growth at this time, view the moon on full display in rural Orange County’s sky.

Saturday

Heirloom Tomato Picnic & Tasting
Tomatoes are in right now, enjoy everything tomato for free on the lawn of the Burwell School Historic Site from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Enjoy a DJ while consuming everything tomatoes can possibly produce, including Colonial Inn Bloody Marys, gazpacho, BLT’s, tomato pies and more. There will be a tomato pie contest and auction judged by Bill Smith, longtime chef of Crook’s Corner; Nancie McDermott, cooking teacher and author of Southern Pies and Southern Cakes; and Margaret Brooks, home cook extraordinaire and grandmother to Dr. Kizzmekia S. Corbett. All proceeds from the event support the programs at the Burwell School Historic Site.

Parent’s Night Out: Dodgeball!
Join Chapel Hill Quest Martial Arts for Parent’s Night Out Dodgeball at 5:30 p.m.  At dodgeball night children play a variety of dodgeball games and group challenges. Masks are required!

Dinner on the Farm
At 5:30 p.m. Chef Cyril Murphy of Harvest’s Table, a few amazing NC farmers and special guest musicians are teaming up to create a distinctly local, al fresco, community dining experience. Whenever possible, all ingredients are NC grown, many in Orange County and some right from the events venue on Windy Hill Farm

Giants Fall Boutique Pop-Up
Starting at noon, The Honeysuckle Tea House hosts an onsite pop-up shop with the North Carolina-based, women-owned Giants Fall Boutique. Browse clothing and jewelry, and enjoy a tea or iced coffee from the Honeysuckle’s menu.

Whistler’s World
Check out the Ackland Art Museum’s self-guided activities beginning at 1 p.m. This month’s exhibits include work from the central figure of the Aesthetic art movement, James McNeill Whistler. There will also be a virtual tour of The Peacock Room located in the Freer Gallery of Art atThe National Museum of Asian Art.

David Burney and Rebecca Newton
This week’s Sundays at Sundown Music Series at Southern Village features the lead singer of the Raleigh-based Johnny Cash tribute band Johnny Folsom 4, David Burney, and Chathamite Rebecca Newton. Enjoy the live music outdoors from 8-10 p.m.
