Close out July with an outdoor movie, botanical garden trips and art installations

Thursday
Movies Under the Stars
Head over to the Forest Theatre to watch some great family films. This week, watch “COCO” starting at sundown (8-8:30 p.m.) and sing along with the crowd. Bring a blanket to sit on, and arrive early to get a good view.
Twilight Thursdays
The North Carolina Botanical Garden is staying open until 8 p.m. so their displays can be experienced in cooler temperatures by anyone who wishes to come. With plenty of seating all around the gardens, it’s ideal for picnic dinners.
Hammered Trivia
Gizmo Brew Works hosts this trivia night from 7-9 p.m.

Something to Say Installation
This art exhibit at Margaret Lane Gallery showcases artwork from residents at Orange Correctional Center in Hillsborough. The opening reception will take place on Friday from 6-9 p.m. and will feature live music from the Ready Singers and others.
Friday
Compose Carolina
Carolina Performing Arts presents this installment of the livestreamed music series at noon. Watch and listen as UNC Department of Music students and alumni present original works and reimagine the theme “In The Now.” The livestream will also include a conversation with artists and faculty. Registration is required.
Fridays on the Front Porch
The Carolina Inn hosts this weekly musical hangout from 5-8 p.m. This week features Lee Gildersleeve and the Bad Dogs along with food trucks Cilantro Mexican Cuisine and GreeTalian Grill.
Eric Gales Band
Cat’s Cradle presents this blues rock show starting at 8 p.m. Chapel Hill-based band Mix Tape Grab Bag will also perform. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Saturday
Flying Jewels in the Garden
At the North Carolina Botanical Garden, this hummingbird presentation will be engaging for the whole family. Join Susan Campbell from 10 a.m. to noon as she takes you through everything you need to know about hummingbird research, including how scientists trap, handle and band the tiny birds in order to better understand them.
Hops for Hope
Affiliated Engineers and Vecino Brewing will be hosting this party from noon to 3 p.m and festivities will include live music from The Recover Band. Bring your family for games and fun while supporting a good cause. A portion of the drink sales will be donated to Children’s Flight of Hope.
Movies with Goats
Spring Haven Farm offers its weekly movie night in the goat pasture. Bring folding chairs to sit on and get cozy with the goats. The show starts at 8 p.m.
Sunday
The Carolina Cutups
This bluegrass band performs live at Botanist and Barrel from 3-5 p.m. Enjoy a hard cider or nonalcoholic beverage from Botanist and Barrel’s menu.
Sundays at Sundown
Southern Village hosts this music series featuring The RPM Band this week from 8-9:30 p.m. on the Village Green.
