NC 10by10 Play Festival
The ArtsCenter hosts a weekend-long lineup of live and livestreamed plays, showcasing writers and actors from across North Carolina. OdysseyStage puts on this annual festival, which includes 10 plays performed by 10 actors, 10 minutes each, with various themes. Performances take place Thursday through Saturday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Tickets are required.

Paperhand Puppet Intervention
Visit Memorial Hall to experience the 21st annual summer puppet show, “Unfolding Seeds: Invocations of Transformation.” This creative group offers performances from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday through Sunday as well as from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Off the Shelf
Host Rustin Zarkar, Middle East and Islamic studies librarian at UNC University Libraries, meets with author Kristy Nabhan-Warren to discuss her book, “Meatpacking America: How Migration, Work, and Faith Unite and Divide the Heartland” from noon to 1 p.m. Register for this virtual event and receive a discount code for the book.
Hip Hop Night
Tracks Music Library, Chapel Hill’s local music platform, hosts an outdoor concert at University Place from 6 to 8 p.m. Chapel Hill-based hip-hop artists Rowdy and KAZE4LETTERS bring their talents to the stage at this live music event.
Thursday Jazz Session
New Morning Jazz will perform live at Yonder Southern Cocktails & Brew. Stop by from 7 to 8:30 p.m to experience this local music group that delivers classic jazz with a modern vibe and enjoy a beer or cocktail.
Courtyard Concert
The Colonial Inn hosts an outdoor concert with local singer-songwriter Jason Bales. The music takes place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the courtyard of the historic inn located in downtown Hillsborough.
The Spark with Tift Merritt
Carolina Performing Arts presents this evening with Tift Merritt and featured guest, Rhiannon Giddens, who will soon begin a three-year residency with CPA. Via livestream listen along as the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and UNC alumna interviews Rhiannon Giddens about her performance techniques and creative process. Tickets must be purchased in advance for the event, which begins at 7:30 p.m.

Fridays on the Front Porch
The Carolina Inn hosts this outdoor concert series, complete with local food trucks and handcrafted cocktails. The lineup includes the Jimmy Hayes Band as well as family-owned food trucks Corner Venezuelan and Mexiarepa. Visit between 5 to 8 p.m. to enjoy the live music.
Last Fridays Art Walk
Hosted by The Hillsborough Arts Council, this community arts-focused event features local craftspeople, performers and artists with live entertainment in historic downtown Hillsborough from 6 to 9 p.m. This Art Walk will feature a poetry showcase with Church Da’Poet, Elliot Axiom and DS Will, along with musical performances at venues across downtown Hillsborough, a vaccination clinic hosted by Orange County Health Department and a plant walk and family painting in River Park.
Kenny Shore
This singer-songwriter will perform at The Honeysuckle Tea House at 6:30 p.m. Come out to enjoy Kenny’s original songs and listen to him perform familiar covers.
The Holland Brothers
Carrboro’s Vecino Brewing Co. hosts the North Carolina-based country group. Stop by from 7 to 9 p.m. to listen to live bluegrass and country blues.
Mel Melton & The Wicked Mojos
Enjoy live music at Yonder Southern Cocktails & Brew, featuring Mel Melton & The Wicked Mojos. This blues band out of North Carolina will perform from 8 to 11 p.m.
Saturday
Cleft Palate Gallop
The 12th annual 5K Race and Fun Walk, hosted by UNC‘s student-led group Miles for Smiles at 7:30 a.m. benefits the UNC Craniofacial Center. The route begins and ends at the historic Old Well, and the USATF-certified 5K course weaves through downtown Chapel Hill and UNC’s campus. Registration for the 5K or 1.2-mile fun walk is required.
Kids’ Yoga at the Market
This yoga session led by Monarch Movement Company encourages children ages 3 to 10 to try different poses and practice mindfulness. Stop by the Eno River Farmers Market at 9 a.m. to enjoy this outdoor class. For all ages and expertise levels.
Fall Plant Sale
The North Carolina Botanical Garden hosts the annual sale, which is open to the public, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Take your pick from southeastern native flowers, shrubs, trees and vines that will thrive in your own backyard. Proceeds support the organization’s research in plant conservation.
Solar Hearts
Enjoy feel-good live music at Botanist and Barrel with local artist Solar Hearts. This folk-pop band creates a unique sound with hints of rock and soul. The concert takes place from 3 to 5 p.m.
Oktoberfest Celebration
Stop by Carolina Brewery between 4 to 8 p.m. to enjoy craft beer and a special Oktoberfest menu, including a pretzel burger, brat sandwich and sausage platter.
Parents’ Night Out
Parents, enjoy a night out while the kids experience an activity-packed evening of play, learning and exploration. Childcare is provided from 6 to 9 p.m. at Kidzu Children’s Museum. The children will explore the exhibits and eat dinner provided by Alfredo’s Pizza Villa.
Michigan Rattlers
Folk-rock group Michigan Rattlers performs at Local 506 at 8 p.m. This group of four lifelong friends will perform original songs and deliver a unique sound.
Sunday
The Artsy Alphabet
Bring the kids to the Ackland Art Museum from 1 to 5 p.m. for activities the whole family can enjoy. Craft your own alphabet book, attend storytime, and participate in an A to Z scavenger hunt.
Last Sunday Tours at Moorefields
Learn more about Moorefields, the historic house located in Hillsborough, through a guided tour led by a public historian. Visit between 1 to 5 p.m. to stroll through this scenic site.
Yoga At Yonder (YAY) with Poe Wellness
Join Meg Poe as she leads a beginner’s yoga session at Yonder Southern Cocktails & Brew. Practice relaxation, challenge your strength and enjoy a complimentary mimosa at this event from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Sundays at Sundown Music
Southern Village’s concert series will feature The Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra on the Village Green at 7 p.m.
