Mayors’ Day Out

Congratulations to incumbent mayors Tom Stevens of Hillsborough and Lydia Lavelle of Carrboro who both recently won reelection! We asked them to share their perfect day in the towns they will continue to serve.unnamed (1)Hillsborough Mayor Tom Stevens
“A perfect day of small town life in Hillsborough always includes walking, whether on Riverwalk, Poet’s Walk, the Historic Occoneechee Speedway Trail, Occoneechee Mountain or strolling through the historic district. It includes beverages, starting with locally roasted coffee and perhaps ending with a brew or glass of wine in one of our local establishments. Add delicious farm-to-table food, of course, whether at one of our many local restaurants, at home or at a neighborhood cookout. Arts add to the day’s perfection, whether from galleries, music venues or curled up with a good book from our delightful public library or independent bookstore (likely from a local author). [I would do] all that, plus hang out with friendly people and interesting characters. And then we get to do it again tomorrow!”

Carrboro Mayor Lydia Lavelle
“My perfect day in Carrboro would start with a bike ride with my wife into the heart of town on a crisp fall day. We would grab a bite at a Carrboro eatery and visit with friends for a while. Fried pickles would have to appear somewhere at some point. Before heading home, we would find an establishment where we could sit outside, enjoy a local brew and watch the community stroll by.”
