We’re always doing a little bit of everything around town these days. Click through our photos to see what we’ve been up to recently!
Podcast
Don’t miss the first episode of our new podcast – hosted by VP of Content Andrea Griffith Cash – this Thursday morning. The link will be on our homepage.
Rhiannon Giddens
Did you catch singer Rhiannon Giddens on “CBS Sunday Morning” earlier this week? If not, watch the story online — a great piece about her North Carolina roots! Catch her in concert at Memorial Hall on Feb. 28.
Al’s Burger Shack
For her Al’s Burger Shack burger, Amanda MacLaren likes to order the Paco with guacamole, tomato, fresh jalapeño and Habanero Jack cheese, but substitutes the burger patty for chicken breast. All you non-red-meat eaters out there, take note!
Venable
Venable also makes a mean chicken sandwich with their chicken cordon bleu: grilled chicken breast topped with blue cheese sauce and prosciutto di Parma on a brioche bun!
Crook’s Corner

Tom Cooper of New Orleans won this year’s Crook’s Corner Book Prize for his debut novel, “The Marauders.” He gets $1,000 and a free glass of wine every day for a year at Crook’s. (Let us know if you need help drinking that wine, Tom!) He’s pictured here with Lee Smith, the book prize’s ultimate judge, and Vietri’s Frances Gravely.
Standard Foods
OK, so this is not a Chapel Hill restaurant, but have you checked out Standard Foods? Andrea and Jenny were super impressed!
Ruth Reichl Cake
After hearing Ruth Reichl speak at Fearrington this fall and tasting the decadent chocolate cake, Andrea had to make the recipe herself. She indulged in New Year’s Eve – just before resolution time!
The Pig
One of our favorite lunch spots – The Pig!
Venable
Caroline visited the Carr Mill Mall eatery and was quite jealous she didn’t order the eggs Benedict special that her friend enjoyed.
Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen
Jessica loves living in a town with multiple options for a darn good biscuit.
Carolina Brewery
Without fail, Jessica orders the nachos at Carolina Brewery on every visit.
