Beer and Brats – Thursday, 5-7pm – Come out to Southern Season to sample brats and Ballast Point beer for free!

Violet, A Musical– Thursday-Saturday, 7:30pm; Sunday, 2pm – Presented by the PlayMakers’ Summer Youth Conservatory, the area’s best and brightest high school and middle school talent from Triangle-area schools perform the musical about a woman from Spruce Pine, N.C., on a quest to heal a scar.

Li’l Abner – Thursday-Saturday, 7:30pm; Sunday, 2pm – Orange Community Players present “Li’l Abner,” a play adaptation of the comic strip of the same name. All showings will take place at Orange High School Auditorium.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Thursday, 8:30pm – As part of the Movies Under the Stars series, the Town of Chapel Hill presents this soon-to-be classic! Free popcorn and various activities are also offered.  

Hillsborough Last Friday Art Walk and Free Concert Series – Friday, 6:30-9:30pm – The Hillsborough Arts Council presents Drew Foust & the Slim Pickins’ for July’s Free Concert Series. The band will play their signature foot-stomping tunes, country-folk ballads and everything in between on the Old Orange County Courthouse lawn. Don’t miss any of the other events, like knitting activities for kids at The Orange County Historical Museum or an After Dark Tour of the Old Town Cemetery!

Bingo Night – Friday, 7-9pm – Support SECU Family House of Chapel Hill at this 6th annual event, taking place at The Farm. It is open to all ages and food from the Farm Grill will be available. Donations from local sponsors will be given as prizes.

Paul Taylor Dance Company – Friday, 8pm; Saturday, 7pm – Don’t miss the last performance of the American Dance Festival in Durham this weekend! Paul Taylor Dance Company will perform four acclaimed pieces, exploring everything from the human conditions to the plastic qualities of the human body. This event will be held at Durham Performing Arts Center in Durham.

The Jungle Book – Friday and Saturday, 8:30pm – Southern Village presents this modern take on the classic story as part of the Outdoor Movies on the Green series. Tickets can be purchased on The Lumina’s website.

Joy of Movement Community Celebration – Saturday, 11am-3pm – Celebrate the NEW Joy of Movement studio with lemonade and snacks provided by Chatham Marketplace! Free mini-classes, taught by the studio’s instructors, will be offered during the celebration.

Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer Carnival – Saturday, 1-5pm – Bring the whole family out to this fun event benefiting the Passmore Center in Hillsborough and Friends of the Seymour Center in Chapel Hill! There will be a “celebrity” dunking booth, outdoor games, a special appearance by Paperhand Puppet Intervention and more! Shannon Vickery of UNC-TV and Mayor Tom Stevens of Hillsborough will also be at the event.

National Dance Day – Saturday, 2-3pm – Celebrate National Dance Day with Orange County Library! Takiri Dance Academy will be there to teach and help you master different dance routines. All ages are welcome.

Cardinal Directions Beer Fest – Saturday, 4pm – Kick back with a summer saison from one (or more!) of 20 North Carolina breweries. Proceeds are split with Farmer Foodshare, a nonprofit that supports local farms and provides food to those in need. 

No Shame Theatre – Saturday, 8pm – The ArtsCenter presents this monthly open performance for original and compelling works of theatre. From comedy sketches to dramatic monologues to dadaist constructions, anything goes! The only rules are that pieces must be short (under five minutes), original and can’t damage the space or audience physically. Please arrive at 7pm if you plan to perform.

Harry Potter Midnight Release Party – Saturday, 10pm – Unleash your inner child at Flyleaf Books! In celebration of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” come out and drink some butterbeer, take part in a costume contest and indulge in a birthday cake for Harry. You must pre-order a copy of the book to receive it on the release date – be sure to arrive before the doors lock at 12:30.  

A Short History of Orange County Baseball – Sunday, all-day – This is the last weekend to catch this exhibit at the Orange County Historical Museum. The exhibit includes photographs loaned by J. Chris Holaday, featuring Orange County Baseball players and photographs shot in Orange County by Dorothea Lange for the Farm Security Administration in 1939.

Fish Fry with Locals Seafood & Haw River Farmhouse Ales – Sunday, 6-9pm – Join Al Bowers, of local fave Al’s Burger Shack, and Locals Seafood at Midway Community Kitchen as they cook up an unforgettable dinner – complimentary beer from Haw River Farmhouse Ales included! Sign up by July 29 to reserve your seat.
