Click, Clack, Typewriters, and Authors – Thursday-Saturday, 11am-4pm; Sunday, 1-4pm – Orange County Historical Museum‘s new exhibition, “Click, Clack, Typewriters, and Authors” explores how the evolution of the typewriter changed the act of writing forever. Viewers are able to see the evolution of this machine throughout the 20th century as well as learn about some of the famous authors who used these types of machines to produce their works. Runs through July 1.
Conversation with Theresa Gloster at the Stone Center – Thursday, 5pm – Join Theresa Gloster, a 2018 Caldwell Family Artist-in-Residence, in the Hitchcock Assembly Room of the Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History for discussion of her paintings. Theresa is a self-taught painter whose works exuberantly chronicle her childhood years in the small African-American community of Bushtown in Caldwell County.
Mixed Media & Photography Show – Friday, 6-9pm – FRANK Gallery‘s opening reception of this exhibit will highlight the work of mixed media artist Carol Retsch-Bogart and photographers Bill McAllister and Sam Wang. They will be at the gallery along with other artists to talk about their processes and work.
Karen Youth Art Group show – Friday, 6-9pm – Stop by FRANK’s outreach space in the halls of University Place for a show featuring work from Karen Refugee students living in Chapel Hill and Carrboro.
Monumental Voices – Saturday & Sunday, 10am-10pm – The Orange County Arts Commission, in partnership with UNC Arts Everywhere, will host “Monumental Voice Community Art Project: A visual arts response to history, equality and social justice” at 109 E. Franklin St. Members of the public are invited to express their responses to a variety of questions on canvas squares, which will be stitched together into a quilt. Monuments created by elementary school students in The ArtsCenter‘s afterschool program will also be available for viewing during the event.

Fifth Annual Artini at Ackland – Saturday, 7-9pm – Join Ackland Art Museum on the final night of the “Becoming a Woman in the Age of Enlightenment” exhibit for an elegant and artful event celebrating inspirational women throughout history. Guests are encouraged to dress in creative cocktail attire and enjoy signature cocktails, delicious appetizers and an all-female musical set. This event is for ages 21 and up. World Premiere of “Leaving Eden” – Saturday, 7:30pm –Directed by PlayMakers Producing Artistic Director Vivienne Benesch, “Leaving Eden” is the theatre’s first fully commissioned work. “Leaving Eden” tells a present and past story about a small NC town where black and latino citizens are the backbone of the town’s economy, but are most vulnerable to violence and hatred. Meanwhile, high-stakes elections loom during both time periods. Written by Mike Wiley, with music and lyrics by Laurelyn Dossett. Tickets: $15+
Jphono1 and The Chevrons – Saturday, 8:15pm – This Chapel Hill-based band will premiere its news album, “Meadow Magic Hour,” at Cat’s Cradle. Tickets: $6 in advance, $8 at the door
Charles Latham at the Station – Saturday, 9pm – See Durham artists Charles Latham and Simone Finally perform at The Station in Carrboro. Charles is performing music from his latest release, “Little Me Time.” Tickets: $7
“The Hundred” Improv Show – Saturday, 9:30pm – Stop by the Varsity Theater for the launch of Improv at the Varsity‘s new show “The Hundred.” Two teams of comedians will face-off in fast-paced comedy games made up on the spot based on audience suggestions. Both teams will work together to accumulate 100 combined points based on audience laughter.
Celebration of life for Woody Durham – Sunday, 2pm – The family of former North Carolina play-by-play announcer Woody Durham will join UNC for a celebration of life at Carmichael Arena. Over the course of his career, Woody called more than 1,800 Carolina games, including six national basketball championship games. Seating is first-come, first-served except for some reserved seats for Carolina basketball and football lettermen.
Near & Far – Sunday, 2-5pm – Celebrate the community’s cultural groups as they share their heritage. Participate in crafts, activities and interactive experiences as musical, dance and art performances take place on the stage and on 140 West Plaza. Enjoy international tastings as food trucks make an appearance.
