Weekend at a Glance
There’s plenty of anniversaries, celebrations and outdoor events to keep your mind off the rain this weekend!
By Hannah Lee

THURSDAY:
The Alliance for Historic Hillsborough presents the 75th Anniversary of D-Day Remembrance Event to honor those that fought and the many people who lost their lives in the battle. The event will feature a talk from Bill Melega, a nationally recognized history educator. There will also be interactive displays and a candle lighting with a live performance of Taps. Remembering D-Day is free and open to the public, and will take place at the Hillsborough Visitors Center at 7pm.
FRIDAY:
Bring an instrument and join in on a jam circle with Pick Filet for Meadowmont’s 20th anniversary – or just stop by to listen! The band will provide easy music to read, play and sing. There will also be free cupcakes from Cafe Carolina & Bakery for the first 100 guests.
SATURDAY:
Celebrate the 80th anniversary of “The Wizard of Oz” by bringing your blankets and chairs for a screening at the Southern Village Green. There will be an introduction by Peter Guzzardi, local author of “Emeralds of Oz: Life Lessons From Over the Rainbow” and a performance by the Estes Hills Elementary’s Drama Department 45 minutes prior to showtime.
SUNDAY:
Do brunch the right way and take your family to Botanist and Barrel for a pop up bagel brunch with Everything Bagels from Durham. And if it’s not already inferred, there’s also going to be cider and cidermosas for parents who need it!
