Weekend at a Glance

Memorial Day Weekend is here, and there’s no shortage of events to check out!

By Adam Phan
Hosted by the Music Maker Relief Foundation, the fifth annual Freight Train Blues Music Series features performances from a variety of musicians at Carrboro Town Commons on select Fridays throughout the summer.

THURSDAY:

This year, Chapel Hill-Carrboro Meals on Wheels hosts its annual silent and live auctions, plus Mediterranean Deli catered dinner on the Southern Village Green. Funds from this event will support the nonprofit’s mission to provide hot, balanced meals to people in Chapel Hill, Carrboro and southern Orange County.

FRIDAY:

Join the Music Maker Relief Foundation for free performances from blues, gospel and folk musicians for the next four Fridays as part of its Freight Train Blues Music Series at Carrboro Town Commons. AJ Ghent kicks off the first performance of the series, mashing together different genres like funk, blues, rock and pop into what he calls Neo Blues.

SATURDAY:

Geek out about your favorite comics and superheroes at Hillsborough Comic Fair at Orange County Public Library, starting at 10 a.m. Meet local comic book authors, participate in panel discussions, dress in your best cosplay for the chance to win prizes and more.
