Weekend at a Glance
Gear up for fall with a fun weekend filled with festivals, films and local art exhibits
By Allie Todd

THURSDAY:
Movie lovers can’t miss the second annual Film Fest 919 at Silverspot Cinema, which started Wednesday and goes all weekend long. The festival aims to showcase audience award-winning films from all over the world and “catch the films before they catch on.” This year’s lineup includes Oscar contenders such as “Marriage Story” and “JoJo Rabbit,” among some 20 other films, all with tickets available by showing.
FRIDAY:
FRANK Gallery hosts an opening reception for their October and November exhibits showcasing the photography work of Peter Filene and Bill McAllister. Peter’s work will feature his latest photo-collage series in addition to his double-exposure photography. Bill’s work will feature a series of images taken with an underwater camera to explore how the reflection and refraction of light in water interplays with and abstracts the floating human figure.
SATURDAY:
Come out to West Franklin Street for the annual Festifall Arts Festival, which is designed to advance the Town of Chapel Hill’s mission to celebrate our community and encouraging creativity. There will be an arts & crafts market with over 75 vendors and live music featuring Onyx Club Boys, Skylar Gudasz, Caique Vidal & Batuque and Charly Lowry of Dark Water Rising. And don’t miss the family fun zone, dancing in the streets, printmaking and local food trucks.
SUNDAY:
Join the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough for the second day of its two-day festival, Outlandish Hillsborough, to celebrate Scottish heritage and history. The festival will also add fun layers from the “Outlander” series. Come in costume of your favorite character or just come for the colonial food, dancing, marketplace vendors and more.
